I Own No Monkeys

(haven't you always wanted a monkey?)

But seriously, folks...
Today, I bring you Part III of my continuing series
Better Know a Breakfast Bread: Scones

Bagels and English Muffins were only the beginning....

Today we bring you scones!!

Today's Fun Fact to Know and Tell Your Friends: there is a raging debate about the pronunciation of the word "scone"; seriously, go google it...I'll wait.....as you can see, some pronounce it "scone" (rhymes with "gone") and others say "scon" (as in "bun")...who knew?

First, toast the oats

Mix the butter with the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt...

...like so

Then mix the flour/butter mixture with milk, cream, egg
and toasted oats

Move the dough to a work surface

Shape into a circle about 7" in diameter

There was some math involved, but I bravely soldiered on and cut the circle into 8 pieces

Brush on a little of the egg/milk mixture and sprinkle on some sugar. I found reusable parchment at Sur La Table in the Ferry Building in San Francisco

Baked

Now, if only I liked tea...

I'm A Little Teapot

short and stout.

Here is my handle...

...here is my spout.

When I get all steamed up...well, you know the rest.

Inside the cozy, there's a pocket...

...into which you can insert a sachet. The warm teapot heats up the sachet, and theoretically should make the room smell good (and in keeping with the teacup/wool theme, there's this.)

Do You Know the Muffin, Man?

Now, in Part II of Better Know a Breakfast Bread, I give you:

English Muffins!

Mixin' the Bloomin' Dough!

We fancied a recipe for our favorite store-bought English Muffins (Bay's English Muffins). We found a recipe on the King Arthur Flour website.

The Resulting Dough

It's very stretchy and sticky...blimey!

Set the dough aside to rise for 90 minutes, and....

...there ya' 'ave it!

Doubled in size. Jolly good show old bean!

We Used Egg Rings to Shape the Dough

The bee's knees, innit?

And Bob's Your Uncle!

Cheers!
